Hening je novinar koji se vraća na posao nakon dve godine, kada je izgubio sina u požaru. Prvi zadatak koji dobija na poslu je da piše o žrtvi pronađenoj u šatoru, kamenovana do smrti, sa tragovima od šibanja i odsečenom šakom. Policija privodi njenog momka koji je musliman, pa zbog samog načina ubistva smatraju da je slučaj zatvoren i da je sigurno on odgovoran, ali Hening ne veruje da je sve tako jednostavno i počinje da istražuje.

“Kad neko počne da priča ono što mu leži na srcu, ne prekidaj ga, pusti ga da završi. Sviđalo se tebi šta on ima da kaže ili ne.”

Hening je takav da mu se ljudi sami otvaraju, ali im nikada ne veruje u potpunosti.
Ima kontakte i koristi ih kad god zatreba.
Nosi ožiljke zbog sina kog je izgubio, bivša žena je u vezi sa njegovim kolegom i svakako mu ništa ne ide kako treba, ali daje sve od sebe da nastavi sa svojim životom.
Njegov lik mi je bio zanimljiv, od prve do poslednje stranice, ali moram priznati da je sama polovina knjige bila previše spora za moj ukus, zbog toga sam je prilično dugo i čitala.

“Mozak je čudan kad doživimo nešto traumatično, ne setimo se uvek svega, ali kako prolazi vreme, možete se setiti stvari koje vam nisu izgledale važno, ali jesu važne.”

Ovo je bio prvi deo serijala, ne znam da li Laguna planira da prevodi nastavke, ali koliko sam videla na Goodreadsu ostale knjige su bolje tako da bih svakako nastavila sa čitanjem.
